With the new ASCIT BoD turnover, there are also positions in the administration that have changed. One of the primary duties of the ASCIT president is to act as a liaison between the student body and administrators. With these new additions, such as the new Vice President for Student Affairs, it will be more important than ever to establish good, working relationships with them. Serving on committees has given me experience and taught me how to work successfully with both faculty and administrators.
When I was deciding to come to Caltech, one of the major factors I considered was the personality of the student body. I have reflected the same friendliness that attracted me here, as a tour guide meeting prospective students and parents, as well as while working with my peers. This quality would be an asset in communications with both students and administrators.
Finally, my experience as the current ASCIT Treasurer will make me fiscally responsible as president. I understand the spending capabilities that are available. My familiarity with this area would be helpful in curbing spending to shift money towards other activities of student interest and also make me extremely reluctant to increase dues unnecessarily.
I hope to bring my financial knowledge to the ASCIT presidency, while maintaining and building on the student body-administration relationship. I would also like to reinstate a channel of communication with the student body, perhaps by bringing back the presidential column in the Tech.
