ASCIT Donut

William Hong

In previous years the ASCIT VP was also BoC chair with the intention of giving some input with regards to the honor code. This does not work – being the BoC chair is time consuming and one would not have time to be involved in ASCIT.

This year the BoC chair is now a separate position and the ASCIT vice-president also acts as the Honor Chair. The responsibilities of the new vice-president include representing the views of the undergraduates and assisting the president with ASCIT duties. The Honor Chair explains the honor code at talks and helps presents BoC cases to the Deans.

These changes will make ASCIT more effective, and I feel that I will be capable of effecting these changes. It takes a certain personality to represent the interests of the undergraduates strongly to the administration while maintaining a good working relationship. I’m generally friendly and easy to get along with, but I will firmly express our views. My experience as a former BoC representative prepares me well for being the new Honor Chair.

The administration has been moving from being based on the Honor Code to various written policies, and there is too much distrust between us and them. Above all, remember that I’m a student here, too. I am always more than happy to talk to fellow students, and I want to serve the community to make Caltech an even better place to be. Please grant me this opportunity.
