The Basics: How to start a club
So you want to start a club?
First, thanks for your initiative.
Second, please remember sometime in the future when everyone you thought would come to your event makes a funnyn face and says "Email? What email?" that although it's a thankless job, it can be personally satisfying and you have the potential to bring a little happiness to other people (if that's your thing.)
Third, I hope you find out that running a club is easy and fun. This guide is long because it documents the wide variety of choices and resources you have havailable to help you, not because running a club is complicated.
Here are the basic things you need to start and run a Caltech-recognized club:
- A means of communication, such as an email list.
- Some money, to plan events
- A website, to establish a campus presence and become eligible for many types of funding
- Some events, because it's what a club does!
