Money Management

Money allows you to plan events. Many organizations on campus will give you money for this purpose (see 'FUNDRAISING' section); however, many of them require you to exercise some financial responsibility. That means, among other things, keeping your money in a reputable bank instead of hiding it under a rock. Two popular options are:

CEFCU account

The Caltech Employees Federal Credit Union provides savings accounts to many campus organizations. The minimum balance is $5, and the membership fee is $0.25. CEFCU does not offer checking accounts, but you can always get cashier's or normal checks at their office at 515 Wilson.

Campus Location: 515 S. Wilson Ave. Pasadena, CA.
Office Hours: Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Telephone: x6300

Bursar's Office

"Banking" through the Bursar's office is free - there's no account activation fee and no minimum balance. You can request checks from them too, but processing takes 8-10 working days. You can obtain cash refunnds (maximum of $500 per day). Some offices, such as Student Affairs and Student Investment, will only transfer funds to a Bursar's account.

To open an account, you may send an email to Dimitris Sakellariou at dimitris@its and copy Judy Young at jyoung@its with the following information:

  1. Brief Description of Club
  2. List the people who will be financially responsible
    1. Name
    2. Address
    3. Telephone
    4. Email
  3. Name of club
  4. Purpose of club

Dimitris will then contact the Bursar's office with his approval.

Please remember to update your information with the Bursar's Office as club officers change.
