Tomorrow is a fake ditch day, then looking at microfilm at Millikan so I can find out what happened in the missing years of the Tech, then lunch and an ARC meeting. Net Impact presents Brennen Ryoyo Nakane and his film on the Devastation of New Orleans

MOVIE STARTS AT 7:00 PM! Followed by a discussion.
Hurricane Katrina forever changed the lives and landscape of the city of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region. Like many others, Brennen Ryoyo Nakane had heard that the media was falsely or under reporting the events that took place during the storm and rebuilding process. But, in spite of countless hours of research on post-Katrina New Orleans from a distance, nothing could have prepared him for the level of devastation that still existed in 2008, years after the storm. Armed with a pocket-sized camcorder, he set out to find and document the truth, capturing a level of authenticity from those interviewed rarely found. Unlike a traditional documentary, which oftentimes fuses art with activism in a simple 90-minute package, Brennen looked to appeal more to the YouTube generation by providing a series of short, unedited clips of his journey that allows the viewer to piece together their own interpretation of the events from the original source material. Join Brennen as he shares a journey that ultimately culminated into being pulled into his own footage, sleeping on the streets with the homeless of New Orleans, including a woman 5-months pregnant, and his efforts to make a difference in their lives.

Adlai Wertman, Professor, Clinical Management and Organization, Marshall
School of Business, University of Southern California.

Wertman's biography: Professor Adlai Wertman is one of the leading figures
in social entrepreneurship in the United States. Before becoming a
professor at USC's Marshall School of Business, he served as the President
and CEO of Chrysalis, a non-profit organization based in Los Angeles that
combats homelessness by providing job training and employment
opportunities. In addition, Wertman is the founder and director of the
Society and Business Lab at USC.
