ASCIT Board of Directors Meeting

Minutes for January 30, 2022. Taken by Nicole Heflin.

Officers Present: Ayooluwa Odemuyiwa, Mohini Misra, Katherine Chang, Matthew Hajjar, Kavya Rajagopalan, Aditi Venkatesh

Call to Order: 7:05 pm PST

President’s Report (Ayooluwa):

California Tech

  • Drafting an MOU between California Tech and Caltech so that finances for the Tech can be handled appropriately in the future
  • Want to ensure that they can’t go over the 10% budget
  • Business manager and editor in chief of the Tech want tech editors to be appointed by ASCIT, but ASCIT is leaning more toward keeping the editor positions elected positions instead of appointed ones

Bylaw Amendments

  • Interhouses will not be taking place this term, but Felicia will be advocating for campus-wide ASCIT events (ex. Midnight donuts, winter wonderland fest, etc.)
  • Encourage people who want to run for positions to attend leadership training organized by Felicia and Tom

DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) Initiative

  • Address concerns brought up by campus climate survey
  • Potentially asking AdComm Chair to attend ASCIT meetings to address diversity, equity, and inclusion on campus
  • Concerns about lack of representation for Bechtel on IHC

Other

  • Houses can start registering small events (ex. Page House Happy Hour)
  • SEC (Student Experiences Committee) → Dr. Howes mentioned that there were two new hires to address mental health concerns and long wait times to speak with counseling services

Officer’s Reports:

V.P. of Academic Affairs (Mohini):

  • Nothing to Report

V.P. of Non-Academic Affairs (Katherine):

  • Houses can still do outdoor events; need to register with ORE
  • Meetings to start construction for interhouses are in the process of being set up
  • Addressing concerns about new hires for security; need to introduce some training so that new hires are familiar with the houses and can respond to security concerns in a timely manner

Director of Operations (Aditi):

  • SAC club storage room cleanup

Treasurer (Matthew):

  • Reviewing history of the California Tech finances
  • California Tech should get a financial advisor for the future

Social Director (Kavya):

  • ASCIT formal venue will be booked soon
  • Winter Wonderland fest → Feb. 20th; carnival event; (possibly include an ice rink, food booths, ice cream/snow cone truck, etc.)
  • Valentine’s Day event

Secretary (Nicole):

  • Nothing to Report
